Beauty and Secrets is based on music from act 1 of the opera Don’t Breathe a Word. The opera is concerned with s diplomatic scandal in a recently ex-Soviet republic in central Asia in the early years of the 21st century. As one of the characters describes it: a land of beauty - and secrets.
