Revised: 2020
Instrumentation: solo violin
Length: 6 minutes
Piece Description:
This piece is a companion to an earlier work for violin and electronics, called Jacob Dreaming which was inspired by the stained-glass image by Marc Chagall (in the Fraumünster, Zürich).
This piece, originally composed for violin and electonics, takes inspiration from another image by Chagall itself also inspired from a story in Genesis in the Hebrew Bible. In the story, Jacob alone, at night, encounters a stranger with whom he wrestles until dawn.
The first version of the piece was premiered by Egidius Streiff in Cambridge in 1995. The revised version is for solo violin.
